       All of the films that we watched in the class dealt with a main character that made a distinct choice and that choice completely changed their life. We watched five films in the class and they were; “Goodbye, Lenin”, “Nirgendwo in Afrika”, “Der blaue Engel”, “Das schreckliche Mädchen” and “Die Ehe der Maria Braun”. Each of the films will be examined separately.         

         “Goodbye, Lenin” war sehr interessant. Die Mutter, Christianne war krank und Alex hat sie in der Klinik besucht. Nach acht Wochen ist sie aufgewachen and nach Hause gekommen. Der Arzt hat mit Alex gesprochen, und sagte dass Christiane nichts von der mauer mitbekommen könnte. Sie müste stattdessen ins bett bleiben, sonst hätte sie noch eine herzanfall gegricht. Die Mauer ist gefallen und Alex hat Christiane nichts davon erzählt. 

         All of the lies that he had been telling her just compounded on each other. Everyday that she lived he had to work harder to create a world around her. This was extremely hard because of all the changes that the area was experiencing. They even went so far as to create Aktual Kamera, the television news show that was on every night. These extreme measures went on until she was hospitalized for the final time. 

         Alex hat die Mühe ob Lüge gesehen. Christianne hat ihre Kinder die wahrheit über ihren Vater erzählt. Alex ist jader nacht zu seiner Vater gefahren und hat seiner Vater gesehen. Christianne wollte Robert ein mehr zeit sehen vor sie sterben. 

          Christianne lied to her children about their father, and this forced Christianne to make sure they did not ever see their father. She hid them from him the way Alex hid the world from Christianne. In the end she realized that it was wrong to keep the children, but she felt it was right the same way Alex thought it was right to keep the truth from his mother. Although their decisions seemed right at first, their lives got worse because of it. This is contrasted in “Nirgenwo in Afrika”, where the decision was hard at first, but got easier as time went on. 

         In “Nirgenwo in Afrika”, hat Walter mit seiner Familie geflohen. Der Entscheidung war besser für die Familie, aber Jettel könnte sich nicht an Afrika dran gewöhnen. Sie hat endlich an Afrika daran gewöhned. Walter wuss dass er von Deutschland flucht nehmen müsste. Das war sehr hart, aber sie mussten es tun. 

         The decision to flee Germany where they were safe and secure was hard, but in the end it was the best choice. Learning to adapt to the culture in Africa seemed impossible to Jettel at first, but over time she learned that she could gain power over others if she did what was right. This decision seemed bad at first, but over time it worked out to be best for the family. Hitler would have put them in concentration camps or killed them because they were Jews. Fleeing allowed them to live and have a good life for the time. In the next movie, the decision did not turn out to be best for the future.

          “Der blaue Engel” hat sich mit Gesellschaft zu tun. Professor Rath war eine Lehrer. Er hat Lola Lola gesehen und dass war die Ende für seinen Job. Er hat mit Lola Lola geschlafen und dass war nicht annehmbar. Wenn er zu seine klasse zurueck geht, wissen die Studentin was zwischen Ihn und Lola los ist. Er ist mit Lola Lola gegangen, und ein Clown geworden. 

          His decision to spend the night with a woman that performed in a club was the beginning of a new life for him. He fell in love with her, and she did not understand what this would do to him. For the rest of the movie, he was not happy with the choice that he made. Once again this German film showed that although a choice might be easy for the short run, it is not the best for the future. 

          “Das schreckliche Mädchen” war ein interessantes Film. Sonja war sehr klug und entschlossen. Sie hat ein Brief über die Stadt geschrieben. Sie hat ihr ganzes leben nur über die Faktum gekümert. Ihrer Leben über das Faktum werden. Ihre Leben war nur das geheim. Sie denkt nur über die Stadt und dem Zweiten Weltkrieg. Sie hat die Informationen gefunden, aber das war nicht gut weil die Leute wollten nur alles vergessen. Am Ende, war sie nicht besonders bessar als am anfang. 

         Her decision to pursue the truth seemed to be the right thing to do at first, but the deeper she dug the more resistance she encountered. The state was wrong to block her the right to see the information, but she was not just looking for educational purposes. The people were afraid that the city would be ruined if the truth got out. It was all handled wrong, but the worst decision was that she allowed it to consume her life. She had a husband and children to think about, but all she did was try to discover the truth. This decision led her down a path that hurt everyone around her.

          “Die Ehe der Maria Braun” hat ein Frau schauen. Das Filme hat über die Kulture in Deutschland gesprochen. Maria Braun hat ein Job gefunden und sie beliefert Essen und Geld für die Familie. Sie hat über die Welt gelernt.           Her choice to become a prostitute kept her family alive. She did what she felt was best, but it made her cold to the rest of the world. Her love for her husband and the loss that she experienced changed her into a jaded woman. It was because of this choice that she took joy in hurting others. She felt pain and heartache during the most important par of her life, and so she was determined to gain control and make others feel the same that she had.

       In all of the films, the choice that was made either benefited the main character in the short run and hurt him/her in the long run, or did the exact opposite. It is important that we look to the future with all of our decisions so that we do not just get what we want now and mess up the rest of our life.
